Freddie Yoshikage
My Digital Artwork piece “Freddie Yoshikage” is both an homage to the British rockstar Freddie Mercury and the Manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (JoJo’s) written by Hirohiko Araki. The Artwork depicts Mercury performing his iconic microphone pose with his stunning yellow biker jacket with the JoJo character ‘Killer Queen’. For context, Killer Queen is referred to in JoJo’s as a ‘Stand’ which is a metamorphic being which follows the character “Yoshikage Kira”. Hence, this is where the name of the piece is driven from, a combination of Freddie and Kira. The source of inspiration for the piece was from Ariki’s love for western culture as he makes plenty of intentional international references in the JoJo’s manga series. As such, Araki’s work has been heavily influenced by popular western bands and song writers, Queen being no exception as the Stand Killer Queen is a direct reference to the song ‘Killer Queen’.
